Le Flaneur (Hawthorn) 7.5/10

Hello fellow cafe lovers or should I say bonjour!

I recently went to Le Flaneur, which is a little French cafe located on Church street in Hawthorn. It was absolutely beautiful inside! It has these huge windows that overlook Church Street and I can only imagine that in the warmer months the windows will be opened and you can sit and drink your coffee while the warm breeze brushes over your face and through your hair.

Anyway, I caught up with two of my Uni friends Flick and Maddy for breakfast. We all really enjoyed it and all ended up ordering the same meal, I guess great minds think alike.

The only negative thing I would have to say is that parking isn’t the easiest in this area and if you’re lucky you can find a two hour parking down one of the side streets. But you can always take the tram as there is a stop right outside the cafe.

They have a great menu, with a number of mouth watering options to choose from. The waitress suggested we try the smashed avo with added feta. So I think I’ll have to go back sometime and try that, as I couldn’t go past the waffles! Just reading about these waffles made my mouth water so I knew that I had to try them. This was there menu in September 2015 and might have changed.

The coffee was GREAT!!! I would definitely go back for another in the future.

Coffee rating: 3/5   3 out of 5

Latte ($3.80)

As I said before, all three of us wanted the waffles and I think that it was safe to say that we all really enjoyed them. There was a silence over the table while we all ate our waffles, making sure that we enjoy every component that was on the plate. The crunch of the waffle and the rich flavour of the salted caramel made our taste buds dance with delight! I would definitely eat these again, as my mouth is watering just thinking of them.

Le Flaneur Breakfast
Waffles with salted caramel and chocolate sauce, hazelnut and walnut crumble and vanilla ice cream ($15.50)

The staff were all really friendly and gave us their opinions of what they enjoy eating there, which makes us want to go back and try the smashed avo, feta and poached eggs. They all walked around with big smiles on their faces, which made us all feel right at home.
