Good to see you café lovers!
Welcome back to Cards and Cafés! A few years back before I started my blog I went to Mister Fox with a friend of mine and I absolutely loved it. So I thought that it was time to pay it another visit to see if it still as fabulous as before.
When I think of the name of this café, I can’t help but think of that annoying song What Does the Fox Say? by Yivis (I apologise if the song is now in your head). But upon walking in and see the rather well dressed fox character on the wall I automatically thought that he was a posh fox with a British accent throwing out phrases like ‘toodle pip’ and ‘jolly good show old chap’.
This café is located at Ringwood Golf Club and is the perfect little spot for a quick meal after a quick round of golf or for a catch up with a good friend. I ended up going to this café with my good friend Beth. We both loved the beautiful views of the lush green grass of the golf course and the stunning indoor vertical garden against the exposed brick wall. The pops of blue around the Mister Fox really help to brighten and add character to this little café.
FOOD & DRINKS
I loved how they carried the fox theme throughout their menu by adding quirky names for each dish instead of the old boring and generic ones that been seen at other places. Names such as fox in the vegie patch and quick brown fox really bring a smile to your face and can make breakfast a little more exciting.
We were slightly disappointed that there wasn’t more of a selection on their menu. Everything was very similar and wished they had more of a verity.
These photos were taken in April of 2016 and might have changed.
I ordered a latte and it came out within about three minutes, which was fantastic! This has to be the quickest that I have ever received my coffee, what great service! Good job Mister Fox!
The Coffee was really tasty; it was strong and hot and made my inner coffee snob dance with joy.
Coffee rating: 4/5
I ordered the fox in the vegie patch, which was two poached eggs, a homemade corn fritter, avocado & feta, spinach and a flat mushroom. I can’t get over how adorable this name is, I can’t help imagine Mister Fox rummaging through Mrs Fox’s vegie patch trying to look for something for his breakfast.
Anyway, I thought that meal was fantastic! The serving size was perfect! I thought that it was a very filling and healthy meal. The eggs slightly over cooked for my liking, I love cutting into the poached eggs and seeing the yolk going everywhere, but sadly this did not happen. But I still enjoyed my meal. The avo and feta mix was perfectly seasoned, with the saltiness of the feta enhancing the natural taste of the avo.
The corn fritter was mighty tasty and had a sensational golden colour on the outside with a soft centre.
Every element on the dish went really well together, with each helping to complement the other and helped to enhance the ingredients nature flavours and textures.
I thought that this meal was very well priced. I know that in the past I’ve paid a lot more for a similar meal which has a much smaller serving.
Beth ended up ordering the quick brown fox, which came with scrambled eggs, Mister Fox baked beans, Macdonald’s hash browns on toasted sourdough. I couldn’t believe the size of the serving, it was huge and it was only $14. This is what I call a bargain!! Have a look at the picture and see what I mean, you won’t easily find a meal of this size for such a reasonable price.
I had a taste of the Mister Fox baked beans and thought they were quite tasty. I’m not a fan of baked beans and probably wouldn’t order this dish because of that fact, but I thought that these had a great flavour. It had a rich tomato flavour, which was seasoned perfectly. The beans were soft and basically melted in your mouth.
Beth said that the eggs were soft and fluffy and that they had a great flavour and weren’t dry at all. The hash browns were fantastic and had an incredible crunch on the outside and were soft on the inside. They definitely helped to bring an extra saltiness to the dish without overpowering it. She said that the baked beans were ok, but she wasn’t a big fan of them. She wouldn’t normally eat baked bean, but she thought she’d step out of her comfort zone and try them out. She said that they had a very strong tomato flavour that she personally didn’t enjoy. But she would recommend it for anyone who enjoys baked beans; maybe they would enjoy the meal more than she did.
ENVIRONMENT & SERVICE
Mister Fox has a fantastic view of the Ringwood golf course; we certainly enjoyed looking over the greens while sipping our coffee. The café itself had a fantastic atmosphere. There was good mix of golfers having a quick meal and a number of mothers there with their children. This is definitely a café to bring the family to.
There are a number of tables inside the café and a handle outside. Mister Fox seems to be a dog friendly café, as there were at least three dogs outside with their owners during our time there. Which is great new for all those dog lovers out there.
There is a beautiful indoor garden along the one wall of the Mister Fox. This feature fall definitely catches your eye and makes you feel as if you’re eating outside in a forest. You almost expect to see Mister Fox and his family run by.
Mister Fox started to get quite busy around lunchtime, so if you are heading to this café I would suggest getting there a bit earlier to ensure you get a seat.
The staff members at Mister Fox are all very friendly and helpful. They answered all the questions that we had and ensured we were always happy.
Mister Fox also caters for events, so make sure you check their website for more information.
