White Mojo (Balwyn) 8/10

How’s it going cafe lovers?

IMG_2282Welcome back to Cards and Cafés! I recently went to White Mojo one Sunday morning with my Dad for breakfast. We had driven past White Mojo a number of times since it opened and we were quite eager to go and try it out.

I think that we went at the right time as we managed to find a table, but if we’d come 30 minutes later we would have had to stand and wait for a spot.

We managed to find a parking spot relatively easily as there was plenty of parking along Whitehorse Road and there were also a number spots along the side street next to the café.

White Mojo has quite an interesting menu, with a number of mouth-watering meals to choose from a number of sweet options for my fellow sweet tooth’s out there, to a number of tasty savoury dishes.

The following menu photos were taken in July 2016 and might have changed since then.

Both my Dad and I ordered a latte and both really enjoyed it. It would have scored higher but they both came to the table cold. I know that you can only heat milk to a certain temperature, but this was definitely colder than it should have been.

My Dad ordered the Belgian Waffles with seasonal fruits, lemon curd, meringue and freeze-dried berries. We both thought that it looked so beautiful when it arrived at the table. It looked like it was plated with so much care; it looked like everything on the plate had its own special place on the plate. The bright pink of the berries and the pale green of the kiwi fruit really stood out against the golden brown of the waffles.

My Dad said that the waffles had a great crunch on the outside and was fluffy on the inside. He thought that lemon curd was very tasty and thought that it was a different idea and helped to balance out the sweetness from the meringue and fruit.

He said that he would definitely order it again and would recommend it to anyone that enjoys a sweet breakfast.

I ordered the zucchini fritters with pumpkin puree, green kale, seasonal greens, fried haloumi and a poached egg. I loved the bright orange of the pumpkin puree against the while plate. The fritters themselves were great! They were cooked really well and the flavours were fantastic! The zucchini and the pumpkin tasted great together and they balanced each other out.

The poached egg added an extra richness to the dish and took the dish from a 7 to a 10! I’m not normally a fan of kale, but I thought that it added a different and interesting texture to the dish. This is the type of dish that would be perfect for both breakfast and lunch. I would definitely recommend this dish to anyone who is a fan of fritters. I hope you enjoy this dish as much as I did.

IMG_2274White Mojo was fantastic inside. They have big windows around the café, which allows all the natural light to come in. With all that natural light it made the café feel warm and really clean inside. We both loved the polished concrete floors and thought that the tables were quite different to the traditional wooden tables. The pale wooden features were fantastic and added warm and character to the café. My favourite thing in White Mojo was the feature wall at the back of the café. The beautiful bright colours used in the picture of the dog were great! It looks like the dog is the mascot of the café and it helps café standout amongst others in the area.

IMG_2278The service was pretty good and we got our coffee and our food quite quickly after ordering. The employees at White Mojo are relatively friendly and are happy to answer any questions that you might have.

We both thought that the aprons that they all wore looked great and made them look very professional. They looked like they were easy to keep clean, unlike other cafés who use material aprons that get dirty very quickly. Having a dirty apron makes it look like you don’t care about cleanliness and makes you question how clean the kitchen is. But good job White Mojo on an excellent uniform choice.
