Muharam Café (Hawthorn) 9/10

How’s it going café lovers?

IMG_2694Welcome back to Cards and Cafés! I came across Muharam Café after seeing a photo of their red velvet pancakes on social media and being a huge pancake/hotcake fan I knew I had to try them out.

I hadn’t seen my two University friends Maddy and Flick for a few months and thought that it was time for us to catch up. As we like to meet up in the Hawthorn area I knew that this was the café we had to go to.

Parking was relatively easy to find, as there are a number of spots along Burwood road and spots down the side streets around the café. But it is important to remember that most of these parking spots are in either one hour or two hour parking zones, so make sure you move your car before you get a fine.

Muharam Café have an excellent menu, with a number of mouth watering sweet and savoury meals to choose from. I know that the three of us struggled to make a decision, so I know I’ll have to go back and try that other dish I had my eye on.

They also have the most delicious looking milkshakes ever! I think I’ll definitely have to go back and try one.

The following menu photos were taken in August 2016 and might have changed since.

I ordered a latte and I thought that it was one of the best coffees that I’d had in a very long time. It came to the table quite hot, which was perfect as it was a very cold morning and I was looking forward to the coffee to warm me up. It also had an incredible rich flavour and the milk was rich and creamy. Every sip was just as amazing as the last and I would definitely go out of my way to have another one of Muharam’s coffees.

Maddy ordered a hot chocolate and we all loved how it was presented. She said that it was incredible; she said that it had a rich chocolate flavour. She said that she would definitely go back for another one.

Maddy ordered the spiced sweetcorn fritters with red pepper salsa, avocado, both bacon and haloumi and a poached egg. On the menu they offer the dish either with bacon or haloumi and Maddy decided that she’d have both, because why not!

As she ate her breakfast she suddenly became quiet, which is the sign that she was really enjoying her meal. She said that the fritters were seasoned and cooked perfectly! They were crunchy on the outside, while slightly softer and fluffier on the inside.

She said that salty bacon added an extra depth of flavour to the dish. The softness of the avocado and the crunch of the bacon were a match made in heaven.

Finally the red pepper salsa was really tasty and added an incredible flavour when accompanied with the fritters and avo.

I ordered the red velvet pancakes with cream cheese, strawberries and warm chocolate. All I can say is WOW WOW WOW!!!!!!! These literally have to be the best pancakes I’ve had in a very long time.

I love red velvet cup cakes so I thought I’d give these pancakes ago and I am so glad that I did. They were so light and fluffy inside and every bite was as great as the last. This is definitely a meal that anyone any gym junkie would enjoy.

The cream cheese tasted great and together with the pancakes was incredible. I can think of any words to describe how great the chocolate sauce was. It definitely wasn’t a bottle sauce, you could taste that this was proper chocolate and not artificial nonsense.

This dish was incredibly rich and if you aren’t into sweet/rich breakfasts, then this is not the dish for you. But if you are a pancake fan then look no further, I have found some of the best pancakes in Melbourne.

Flick ordered the free-range eggs on sourdough with a side of bacon. Flick said that the bacon was amazing! She said that it was so crunchy and added a great flavour to the dish.

IMG_2692Muharam Café is quite a small café, which makes it really cosy and intimate. We sat at the big-shared table and we literally sat there for two and a half hours, but felt that we could have sat there all day.

The employees were all so friendly and we loved that they had a chat to us. This was one of our favourite cafés that we’d been to together and would definitely go back.

The décor was very simple, but it suited the relaxed environment.
