G’day fellow café lovers!
Welcome back to Cards and Cafés! I came across Scarvelli by sheer chance when I was driving down Whitehorse Road and the beautiful mural on the sidewall of Scarvelli café caught my eye. I saw the café name and looked it up as soon as I got home and after looking at the menu I knew I had to add it to my list.
Once again I went for breakfast with my good friend Beth and after sending her the link to the menu, she was excited, as I was to go and have a meal there.
Parking was relatively easy to find, as there are a number of parking’s down Whitehorse road near Scarvelli, as well as a number of parking’s down the side street next to Scarvelli.
FOOD & DRINKS
Scarvelli have a fantastic menu filled with a number of healthy and tasty meals to choose from. Even though the menu is fairly small, I’m sure you’ll find something that you’ll really enjoy.
The following menu photos were taken in early August 2016 and it might have changed since.
I ordered a latte and I quite enjoyed it. I thought that it had a strong and rich flavour. Both our drinks came quite quickly after we ordered, which was fantastic as it was quite a chilly Melbourne morning so we needed something to help warm us up.
Coffee rating: 4/5
Beth ordered a chai latte and she wasn’t overly impressed. She said that it was average and wasn’t anything overly special.
Chai rating: 3/5
Beth ordered the vanilla bean and chia seed porridge, with homemade seasonal jams, toasted hazelnuts and edible flowers.
We both thought that the plating of this dish was done so nicely. We loved that the porridge was served in a glass, rather than in a boring bowl. We both thought that the flowers on top on the porridge looks great and added an extra pop of colour to the dish. She also loved the texture of the porridge.
Beth thought that having the strewed fruits on the side allowed her to add the extra sweetness to the dish when she needed it without over powering the porridge.
Even though she really enjoyed the dish, she thought that it was a little small for her personal liking. She was quite hungry that morning and found that the porridge wasn’t enough to fill her up. But she said that this would be the perfect meal for someone looking for a light meal.
I ordered the brekkie bun with bacon, fried free-range egg, avocado, spinach and aioli on a brioche bun. I thought that it was absolutely delicious! I thought that the aioli and the salty bacon we a great flavour combination. I thought that the egg was cooked really well and thought that every element of the dish complement each and helped balanced each other out.
I would have to agree with Beth, as I thought that it was a rather small serving if you are really hungry. This would be a great meal for someone looking for a smaller meal or a snack. I was also left a little hungry once I had finished. But I really enjoyed this dish and would definitely order it again.
ENVIRONMENT & SERVICE
There are a number of tables inside Scarvelli café as well as a number of tables at the front of the café, which would be perfect if you bring your four legged fur baby with you. Scarvelli also have an outside area at the back of the café. I can imagine that sitting in the outside areas would be fantastic during the warmer months.
I loved the red exposed walls in the section of the café we were sitting in. I also loved the wooden floor of the café, which was a nice change from polished concrete that most cafés have.
The employees at Scarvelli were all quite friendly and welcoming.
