Oscar Cooper (Prahran) 8/10

How’s it going café lovers?

img_3523Welcome back to Cards and Cafés! I hope that you have all been well and are ready to come on another food adventure with me. A few years ago I went to Oscar Cooper with my good friend Tiana and we both LOVED it, so I thought that it was about time to go back for another visit. So I gave my friend Beth a call and she was pleased to accompany me.

We ended up going on a late Wednesday morning and we easily found a table. But as the morning went on, it became quite busy. So I can only imagine that on Saturday’s and Sunday’s would be incredibly busy and that you might have to line up for a table. So I would recommend that you get there nice and early to avoid the wait.

I’m pleased to say that Oscar Cooper is just as fantastic as it was a few years ago.

We found parking really easily as there is a car park down the road from the café. With that there are a number of spots along Chapel Street, which is just a short walk from the café. Which means you can do a spot of shopping either before or after your meal.

Oscar Cooper has a fantastic menu with a great selection of breakfasts and lunches that will satisfy level of hunger. With that they have a fantastic variety of smoothies with the most interesting flavour combinations. Oscar Cooper also have a number of cocktails and beers to choose from, which would go perfectly with your lunch.

The following menu photos were taken at the end of September and it might have changed since.

I ended up ordering a latte; it came to the table within five minutes of ordering and was super hot, which was fantastic! I thought that it had a strong flavour with a rich and creamy mouth feel.

Beth ordered a chai latte and she said that it was nice and hot when it arrived to the table and that it wasn’t overly sweet. She said that she enjoyed it and would order it again.

Beth ordered the blueberry and ricotta hotcakes with lemon curd, blueberry compote, vanilla and thyme cream. She said that the lemon curd and the blueberries complimented each other perfectly, with the slight sweetness of the blueberries cut out some of the tartness of the lemon curd.

Beth said that the hotcakes had a great flavour and weren’t to dence. But said that the middle of some of them were slightly too soft and almost tasted undercooked and raw.

She loved the vanilla and thyme cream was delicious and thought that the thyme added and incredible depth of flavour and added an extra freshness to the dish.

Beth said that it was plated so beautifully and said that she would definitely order this dish again.

I ordered Oscar’s benedict; which was served with potato roesti, avocado, poached egg, hollandaise sauce and thyme and chilli mushrooms. I LOVED LOVED LOVED this dish!! I thought that it was absolutely delicious! It was basically two of my favourite breakfast’s on one, that being smashed avo and eggs benedict. I thought that the addiction of the avocado was fantastic! It added a great freshness to the dish and helped to cut down some of the richness that the hollandaise sauce brought to the dish.

The poached eggs were cooked to perfection and I loved watching the yolks run across the avocado and across the plate. I also thought that the thyme and chilli mushrooms were fantastic. The chilli helped to add a fantastic flavour and I’m pleased to say that the chilli wasn’t over powering at all.

I would definitely order this dish again and I would have to say it is one of the best eggs benedict’s in Melbourne.

img_3512Oscar Cooper is a great café with a number of tables inside and out. The outside tables overlook the peaceful Greville Street and have umbrellas, which will protect you from the harsh sun in summer and the rain in winter.

Inside they have a little fireplace, which made it feel nice and cosy inside. We both felt that Oscar Cooper had a very relaxed environment and we could have sat there all day drinking coffee and chatting. We both loved the big windows around the café, which allowed all the natural light in.

The staff members at Oscar Cooper were all very friendly and we felt very welcome.

This has definitely been one of my favourite cafés and I would definitely go back and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great café in Prahran.
