Dundas and Faussett (Albert Park) 8.5/10

What’s up café lovers?

Welcome back to Cards and Cafés! I recently ventured out to Albert Park to meet my friend Alex for brunch. I hadn’t seen her in ages and we thought it was time to catch up and as Dundas and Faussett is one of her favourite cafes, I knew that this would be the perfect place.

Dundas and Faussett is pretty easy to find, as they have quite a large sign outside. They also have a large floor space, both inside and outside, so you are almost sure to find a table.

Parking can be a bit of a challenge in this area. Although there are plenty of spots outside the café and in the streets surrounding it, but these parking spots are usually in a one hour or a two hour parking zone. Which means if you are catching up with a friend or having a casual meal with your family, you need keep your eye on the time.

Dundas and Faussett have a huge menu, with plenty of breakfasts, lunches and even a selection of wok-cooked food to choose from. So I’m sure you’ll find a couple of things that’ll catch your eye. You might even have to go back a few times to try that other dish you had your eye on.

The following menu photos were taken at the end of January 2017 and might have changed since.

Alex ordered the eggs Benedict, with poached eggs on English muffins with Virginian ham and hollandaise sauce. We both loved how beautifully it was plated up. We loved the bright orange plate and loved the yellow of the hollandaise sauce against the pink/brown of the ham.

Alex said that the dish was AMAZING!! She said that all the flavours were fantastic and that her poached eggs were cooked perfectly. She loved the soft eggs against the crunch of the English muffin. Every mouthful had all her taste buds dancing with joy.

The only criticism she had about the dish was that the hollandaise sauce was a bit to runny/watery for her liking. She said that she would have preferred it to have been a bit thicker and creamier.

She said that she would definitely have the dish again and would recommend it to other eggs Benedict fans out there.

I ordered the ricotta hotcake with banana, palm sugar caramel, hazelnut crumble and fresh berries.

This dish was AMAZING!!!!!! This hotcake was definitely one of the best ones that I’ve had in a while. The palm sugar caramel was the hero of the dish in my eyes. It brought sweetness to the dish and made the outside of the hotcake crunchy while keeping the inside slightly gooey. My mouth is just watering thinking back to eating this dish. The hotcake itself was super tasty and was cooked perfectly as it was fluffy on the inside and it had a beautiful golden brown colour on the outside.

I also loved the hazelnut crumble and thought that it added an interesting element to the dish.

I’m not normally a fan of warm banana, but I thought that it worked very well in this case. I thought that every element in this dish worked perfectly together. The dish is on the sweeter side, so if you aren’t a fan of sweet breakfasts, then I would suggest you give this rich dish a miss. But if like me, you enjoy sweet breakfast treats then this dish has your name written all over it.

I would definitely have this dish again and would recommend other pancake/hotcake fans out there to give it a go.

As I said earlier, there are quite a number of tables at Dundas and Faussett, so I’m sure you’ll easily find a table. But as I always suggest, try and get there before 10 am on the weekends to avoid having to wait for a table.

The service was okay and we actually got our food quite quickly after ordering, even though the place was fairly busy (as we went on Australia Day). The staff members were all very friendly, but some seemed a bit slow in taking our orders and checking up on us.

Alex had been to this café a number of times and she said that she’s never had a bad meal or a bad service, which is always good to hear.

I would definitely go to this café again and would recommend those that live in the area, or anyone wanting something different, to go and pay them a visit. I really hope that you enjoy your experience as much as Alex and I did.
