FOOD & DRINKS
We both liked the menu and thought that they had a number of delicious sounding dishes to choose from. They support local produce where possible and use free-range meat and eggs in all their dishes.
The following menu photos were taken in August 2017 and might have changed since.
I ordered a cappuccino and I thought that it had a fantastic rich flavour and a creamy consistency. It was nice and hot when it arrived at the table and went down like an absolute treat.
Coffee rating: 4/5
Beth ordered a chai latte, which was nice and warm with a lovely froth on top. It wasn’t as flavourful as she would have liked, but there was a nice subtle spice.
Chai rating: 3/5
For breakfast Beth ordered the Chilli Scrambled Eggs, with house cured ocean trout, sambal, crispy shallots, multigrain toast, fresh coriander and lime.
The chilli scramble itself was quite tasty and full of flavour, as it had a nice chilli kick to it. The eggs were nice and fluffy and the portion was quite generous. Beth personally wasn’t the biggest fan of the trout, but thinks that others might enjoy it.

For breakfast I ordered the Saint Benedict, with Berkshire pork shoulder, fresh apple, poached eggs, beurre noisette hollandaise on toasted sourdough.
This dish was plated beautifully and I loved the contrast of the yellow hollandaise sauce against the golden brown of the toast and the slight pink of the pork.
The poached eggs were cooked perfectly, and the runny yolks added an extra depth of richness to the dish.
I would have loved more fresh apple on the plate, as I personally didn’t think there was enough. The pork itself has a fantastic flavour and the natural flavours of the dish married perfectly with the richness of the other elements.
This was a very generous serving and I actually struggled to finish.

ENVIRONMENT & SERVICE
The staff at Saint James Café are fantastic and are so friendly and welcoming. They greeted us with warm smiles, made conversation with us, and offered to go through the menu and answer any questions that we might have had.
We were lucky enough to get a table right away, but if you have to wait, I’m sure you’ll find that it was worth it.
The café isn’t overly big, but we thought that the tables were nicely spread out and didn’t feel like we were too close to the people next to us.
The service was fast and we received both our drinks and food quite soon after ordering.
We both enjoyed our time and would definitely go back.
