Hello Café Lovers!
Welcome to Cards and Cafés!
Located next to SIA Medical Centre on Burwood Highway and just down the road from Deakin University, sits Dosage Café. This unique café has to be one of the best cafes in the area and is home to some of the tastiest food around.
Dosage is the sister café to Second Wife in Box Hill and The Foreigner in Ivanhoe, so I think I’ll have to add those to my ever growing café list.
I went to Dosage Café on a Saturday morning with my friend Beth for our weekly café adventure.
There are one-hour parking spots available in the underground parking under SIA Medical Centre or parking along one of the side street near the café.
FOOD & DRINKS
The menu was fantastic! They have many delicious dishes to choose from and seem to have a wider range than most other cafes that I’ve been to in the past.
I’ve heard good things about their jaffles and definitely need to go back and try one. I love the links to their science theme with the headings of ‘Liquids’ and ‘Solids’, making the menu even more exciting.
Dosage uses the Industry Beans blend of coffee.
The following menu photos were taken in September 2017 and might have changed since.
I felt like something different, so I decided to order a hot chocolate. I had heard great things about their hot chocolate and they didn’t disappoint. I loved, loved, loved the presentation. It was a very clear idea and I loved how it stuck to the science theme of the café.
It was delicious and I loved that they gave extra chocolate on the side for you to add if needed.
Hot chocolate rating: 4/5

Beth decided to order a matcha latte for a change and thought that it was one of the better matchas that she had tried. The froth was nice and silky and there was a good amount of matcha power, which meant that the strength was perfect. The cup was also a generous size.
Matcha rating: 3/5

Beth ordered the Smashed Pumpkin, with fully bashed sweet potato and sage on five-grain sourdough on a spread of hummus with Danish feta and poached eggs with a balsamic glaze.
The dish was absolutely delicious and she thought that the idea of having smashed pumpkin was genius! It was well seasoned and all the flavours were nicely balanced. She also enjoyed the flavour combination of the hummus and the pumpkin, saying that they enhanced each other’s natural flavours. It was a real treat for her taste buds.
Her only complaint was that her eggs were undercooked, as some of the egg whites were still transparent.
But she would definitely order this dish again.

For breakfast I ordered the Breaking Bad, which was two poached eggs with smoked turkey ham, melted Colby cheese, smashed avocado and feta on a New York bagel with a sriracha ketchup syringe.
First of all, I loved the presentation of my meal and thought that the addition of the syringe was fantastic and quite unique (even though it’s becoming popular now).
The eggs were cooked to perfection and I loved the flavour combination of the rich egg yolk with the fresh avocado. I loved the bagel and thought that it was a nice change to the boring old sourdough toast that all other cafes seems to do.
The sriracha ketchup was delicious and a little goes a long way. It added an extra flavour and a bit of a chilli bite to the dish.
I would definitely order this dish again.

ENVIRONMENT & SERVICE
The café is quite small, with only a handful of tables inside. But they have a fantastic outside area, which would be the best place to sit during the warm months or if you have your dog with you.
Inside the café it is bright and inviting; the large windows around the café allow the natural light to flood in, making it warm and cosy.
The staff members are really friendly and welcoming, and greeted us with warm smiles on their faces. The service was relatively fast and we received our food and drinks quite quickly.
The environment itself was relaxed and we didn’t feel any pressure to eat quickly to make room for the next group. We were lucky that it wasn’t busy when we arrived on that Saturday morning, but as time went on the place started to buzz. I would definitely recommend getting there before 10am to avoid the rush.
