Hi There Café Lovers!
Welcome to Cards and Cafés!
With their fantastic menu and delicious drinks, they have customers lining outside their door most weekends waiting for a table.
Parking in the area is pretty easy. There are a number of spots along High Street as well as plenty of parking down one of the many side streets surrounding the café.
I went to Tinker one Thursday morning with my friend Beth and we were excited to try one of Melbourne’s favourite cafes.
FOOD & DRINKS
Tinker has quite a nice menu with a wide range of dishes and drinks to choose from.
The following menu photo was taken in November 2017 and it might have changed since.
Beth ordered her favourite drink, a chai latte. She thought it was a good strength, but didn’t like how it already had the honey at the bottom of the glass. This meant that the first cup was very sweet, while the other was not. But she enjoyed the brew and thought that the froth was nice and silky.
Chai rating: 3/5
I ordered a cappuccino. The blend was enjoyable, as it was quite strong. The coffee had a rich and creamy consistency and went down a real treat.

Beth ended up ordering the Chilli Scrambled Eggs with coriander, bacon, cherry tomatoes, Vietnamese mint, fried shallots, and Parmesan on sourdough. This dish had both a gluten free and vegetarian option.
The eggs were light and fluffy and had a subtle chilli hit. This dish had a very generous serving of bacon, which is good news for all those bacon lovers out there. Unfortunately Beth is not, and she found there was too much for her personal liking. But if you are a bacon fan, then you will love this.
Overall, this dish was great and she said that it was the perfect serving size.
I ordered the Waffle Eggs Benedict, with pulled smoked beef brisket, two poached eggs, watercress, chipotle hollandaise sauce, and sweet potato crisps on a cheddar cornbread waffle. This dish has a gluten free option.
I loved the bright orange colour of the sweet potato crisps and the crunch they had when you bit into them. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the runny yolk added an extra depth of richness.
The hollandaise sauce was rich and had an interesting flavour that went perfectly with the smoked beef.
I personally wasn’t the biggest fan of the smoked beef brisket and prefer to have pulled pork with my eggs benedict, but the beef was flavoursome and tender.
Finally, I really enjoyed the waffle. It was nice and crunchy on the outside, while the inside was still light and fluffy.
All the flavours of the dish went together perfectly.
ENVIRONMENT & SERVICE
As Tinker is always so busy over the weekend period, we decided to go during the week to avoid having to wait for a table. When we arrived, it was already quite busy and we were lucky to find a table quickly., As the morning went on it became very busy as the customers began to line up.
The staff at Tinker were all friendly and welcoming, but they didn’t really check up on us.
There are a number of tables inside the café with only a handful outside overlooking High Street.
The atmosphere is quite busy. They don’t necessarily rush you, but you feel bad if you sit for too long when you can see the line of people waiting for a table.
