Code 21 (Brunswick East) 5/10

Hi Café Lovers!

Welcome to Cards and Cafés!

After seeing Code 21’s Instagram account I called my friend Mars up and set up a breakfast catch-up, so we could go and try some of these beautiful looking dishes.

We easily found parking down a side street near the café, so I’m sure you won’t have a problem finding a spot.

The menu isn’t very large, but they do have a number of mouth-watering dishes to choose from.

The following menu photos were taken at the end of June 2018 and it might have changed since.

I ordered a cappuccino and it came to the table nice and hot and it had a rich and creamy flavour.

Mars ordered the Prana chai and she really enjoyed it and said that it had a great flavour.

I ordered their special, the Red Velvet Waffles with Nutella frosting, peanut butter ice cream, berries, fairy floss and Nutella warm sauce.

This dish sounded fantastic and as it had peanut butter ice cream I know I had to give it a try.

The dish was plated so beautifully and you and see that a lot of time and effort went into making this dish.

But looks and sometimes be deceiving and I personally think that this dish looked better than it tasted.

The waffles were such a letdown, as they were ice cold and hard. They tasted stale as if they had been made the day before and then popped onto my plate. The waffles were so dry, and you definitely needed all the other elements on the dish to help soften the waffles in order to chew them.

I was so looking forward to warm and crunchy waffles and was utterly disappointed in what I received.

But in saying that, I quite enjoyed the other elements on the plate. I thought that the peanut butter ice cream was flavourful, and the Nutella frosting was tasty but very rich.

Mars also ordered one of their specials and order the 5 Spiced Braised Lamb served in a tumuric brioche bun, tomato onion chilli salsa and sweet potato chips.

Mars said that the lamb had a great flavour and that it just melted in her mouth but was disappointed at how much fat and gristle was left on the meat.

The salsa had a good flavour and went perfectly with the lamb.

bMP797ZsQWWrAoaT4SUf1wWe were disappointed in the service that we received at the café. When we arrived, they had no available tables, which is fine, and we understand so we sat about the window counter seating. Other people who walked in sat next to us and were given menus right away. We waited almost 10 minutes before menus were given to us, even though we were there before these other people and staff knew we were there as we chatted to them when we walked in.

It also took staff a long time to come and take our orders. Even though staff were friendly, we were just disappointed at the slow service that we received.

The atmosphere was fairly relaxed and as we were along the window counter seating we didn’t feel rushed or that they wanted us to leave to make room for other customers.
